Re: Op Separatist Aggression Day 4

Well done puma. I was also lit up by a 31, which was taken out by an F18 when he was about 3-4 nm behind me (I was on the deck doing nearly 400 KIAS by then). It was interesting to note that the 31 showed up as a mini-SPI with a blue line linking it to the oncoming F18 - I hadn't seen that before, a...

Re: Op Separatist Aggression Day 4

I will not be around on Thu, which is a pity because I have a "cunning plan", worthy of Baldrick himself. Any approach to the Big Bird from the sea looks almost impossible, and the same goes for the bridges behind it. Having got shot down on my first try, I went through the hills, and was amazed to ...

Re: Op Separatist Aggression - Day 3

Neil & David, Thanks for your responses. I have started to put my thoughts down on paper and will trawl through the several sets of SOPs available to refine them. I will also seek inputs from RAF Air members. I'm with you about best rpm indication to use David. The manual recommends Fan rather than ...

Re: Op Separatist Aggression - Day 3

Yes, we few were clearly overwhelmed by the tasking. However, the tasking from the ground was pretty awful. Where was the 'Inguri Dam' and which town were the enemy in the centre of? Realistic confusion by the 'brown types' is all very well, but I am quite capable of getting sufficiently confused wi...

Re: Maps

David,

I have found it easiest to go into DCS, click on F10 to get the area map, and make a screenshot. You can then edit this map with Paint or some similar program and crop and print the sections you want. Detail is a bit limited, but I do find it useful.

Re: Op Separatist Aggression - Day 3

Neil,

Don't know what others feel, but if it were possible to publish the fightplan route in advance - just UTM with IDs - it would be useful to plot it on a map and take a look at it in advance.

Re: Op Separatist Aggression

Thanks for your understanding response, Neil. I was a little worried that I might get up someone's nose. I would be very happy to have a go at producing some outline SOPs for comment. I will concentrate on briefing and formation initially - I still don't feel qualified to go into tactics and weapons...

Re: Op Separatist Aggression

I found it a lot of fun, if frustrating. Still at least I intercepted another SAM before it hit a more productive member of my flight. I would certainly welcome this scenarios ready availability. It seems to me to give an excellent arena for a relative newly to practice in. I clearly need to refine ...

Re: Postings to Kobuleti

Thanks Neil.

I'd feel a lot prouder if I hadn't completely forgotten to note the flight time and fuel used for my Pirep - Help!
