Alan,
Just setup my own test for this mission.
I've managed to destroy the SA8, but each time I move over to the vehicles, I get taken out by the manpads.
With the cloud base, and ground elevation, they are always going to be a threat.
Do you intend to attack the manpads, before moving onto the other targets?
Using the supplied miz file, the flares/chaff are 240/120. I had to re-arm.
Your wish for return fire, has been well and truly granted.

Still planning the details, Geoff. The probable plan will be to rely on stand-off weapons APKWs and Mavs. With the possibility to use cluster weapons against the infantry group to the SW - they do not appear to have any man-pads with them.

The probable plan will be:

1. The first pair use Mav against the SA-8 and anti-personnel APKW against the tented camp. These are protected by man-pads and so good discipline will be required to break off before 3 nm. For the APKW, approach at <200 kts and above 10kft, fire, then a gentle turn out, keeping the laser on the target, during the turn. Alternatively we may need to use buddy lasing - but we are short of ac for that.

2. Then move onto the AFVs, again using Mav and/or 252 APKWs, probably attacking from the SW. then find and take out the 2 convoys staring with the Shilkas.

3. Finally, over to the PBI - as befits the lowly infantry they do not seem to have any AA defence!! Hence they will be tiresome but relativly risk free.

So far as the Frag goes the targets to the NW do not appear to be allocated to us, even though they are within a "97 target area-1".

Obviously if we get more than the 2-3 pilots who have put their names down so far, I will re-allocate targets.

Alan.
Sounds good. Now we need more pilots. Fingers crossed, let's hope Richard has bribed his Sister.

An initial outline brief is attached. I will try and get the detailed brief out by the end of tomorrow.

Guys,

All good for tomorrow night. It appears that my sis prefers a bottle of wine to speaking to me.

Will take a look at the brief tonight in prep

I didn't know that was an option Richard - mine's a nice Red please. Excellent news!

The Pre-Flt brief for this sortie is attached. I suggest Richard flies as No 2, and Geoff flies as No 3. You will see that we split into 2 elements: element one will consist of me and Richard; and element two, Geoff plus any late comer. If we get more than 4, I will re-jig it.

You will see that there are a lot of targets, and I envisage the element lead detaching his No 2 to specific tasks. There are also some obvious additional targets, which we will add once our primary ones are smoking.

Please let me have any questions nice and early so that I can issue an amendment to the brief. Failing that, the brief will greatly reduce the time required to brief before the event.

Alan,
Brief looks good.
I note I'm No3, leading Element 2, and my primary target is the SA-8.
Will you be circulating the miz that you return to Andrew? I would like to see how my waypoints interact with the manpads.

Richard,
Tell your Sister I'll see her on Friday, after Happy Hour, for her Taceval.

Is there room for one more? I'm pretty sure I can still remember how to fly her.
