Server & Website - The Future

Post by Neil Willis »

We have carried out some tentative research into updating the way RAF Air's server and website work together. We have felt for a while that the current website is getting a little outdated and is due for an overhaul.

We have found a possible solution, but we are awaiting details of the long-anticipated dedicated server software from ED before we take any further steps. One decision has been made, which is to move across to Wordpress as the platform for the website. Costs will hopefully also be reduced if we can combine all 3 services - the website, server, and Teamspeak onto a single platform, but until we know if the dedicated server software will run on Linux, we cannot be sure about anything.

In the meantime, we have gone ahead with another 12-month term with the current system, which should give ample time to prepare, and switch over to a new setup. The aim will, of course, be to transition across seamlessly, so testing will be carried out before the jump takes place.
