Gents, I saw that information in another forum. Hope it helps.
If you have the Steam version of DCS and are running the stable version, you'll need to update to Open Beta if you plan on enjoying any multiplayer fun.
-Open Steam
-Click Library
-Right click DCS World Steam Edition
-Select Settings
-Open tab "Beta"
-Select the beta you would like to opt in to "openbeta-public beta versions"
-Select close
-Restart DCS Steam Edition- this will trigger an update
-Give it a few minutes and now you have the openbeta steam edition

Re: Steam DCS to Open Beta
Correct, I had this issue when I first joined RAFairuk a few months ago, however at the moment that is also of no use as Steam currently cannot update to the 2.5.6 version.

Indeed, the Steam version is usually a little behind the stand alone. I know Steam makes for simpler management of games, but the stand alone is far better for the serious flier.

Re: Steam DCS to Open Beta
The updates generally drop at the same time however this update has been a problem for steam so they had to roll back until the issue is resolved.
I think its a bit harsh saying serious fliers should be standalone. Its exactly the same game just managed through steam which gives better game management and much much much faster download speeds.

That certainly hasn’t always been the case. Having abandoned Steam many moons ago, I shall bow to your better knowledge.
But I won’t be going back.

Well I am currently downloading the standalone just in case steam doesn't come through for Tuesday night.

Re: Steam DCS to Open Beta
Well after taking all night and half the day downloading the standalone version I now have the same again to download just the tomcat and Persian Gulf.
Really?! Steam would have had the whole game and all my addons downloaded last night. To add insult to injury if I'd have known then I could have just copied the files over from me steam install prior to unistalling the steam version but didn't realise that the standalone hadn't downloaded any addons before removing the steam version from my pc for space!!
Ahhahhhhhh
