I would advise against taking a rio thats not cleared for active into a mission. Its not something that you can limp through during combat with other blue aircraft in potential danger.

oh yes silly me that will teach me to post when not awake.

if around today doozer i can do your check ride hopefully before tonights mission, then can clear you for active service and you can back seat someone tonights mission

Yeah it's just the RIO is integral to the aircraft being operational. Scooby had a real hard time on the first Northern Clout several weeks ago when he took Shaggy up with virtually no experience at the time. Its not easy.

It's a shame we can't, as the pilot, just say:

Pilot: "Right, you're crap, get out and walk and give me back Jester!"
RIO: "But we are at 28000ft!"
Pilot: "Yep, off you go buddy!"
