At the moment there are just a couple of us flying operations from the carrier.

It is my intention to establish a fleet air arm F-18 squadron for those wishing to fly exclusively from a maritime environment.

This is as an alternative to the OCU squadron which currently concentrates exclusively on training.

I would be interested in flying the F-18 within the main RAF Air organisation.

Sounds like we will have a suitable cadre of pilots to make at least a flight possible in operations.

Does anyone have a specific historic Squadron we could base it upon? Perhaps the unit that sunk the Bismark, or the unit that attacked the Italian fleet at anchor in Taranto?

825 Squadron was involved in the sinking of the Bismark, and appeared in Korea, and the Falklands, so that looks like a suitable candidate.

And other suggestions?

I'm tempted to name my old Squadron - 24. Unfortunately they haven't been a fighter squadron for nearly a hundred years (and "No - I wasn't with them then").

825 are RN - ex RFC 25 sqn I think.

I dont mind the squadron. Is there a specific role it is going to do?
