Harrier Training
Re: Harrier Training
Always up for training on this kite! Keen to understand SOPS on all her systems. Would this be still undertaken mainly on a Thursday evening?

Re: Harrier Training
Hi all,
Harrier OCU Update:
I have been working hard on the Harrier OCU course over the last few weeks, and we are now in a position that we will be ready to commence within the next week. Initially myself and Smokes with be training pilots however as we progress and our pilots prove themselves I shall start to delegate instruction of early phases to the proven pilots.
The teaching of the OCU will be done on a one to one environment for benefit of those being taught, our pilots can either PM or WhatsApp myself of Smokes and arrange a suitable time to conduct training. I have produced a spreadsheet to track everyone's progress so we can easily keep track of where everyone is at.
Harrier OCU Syllabus:
Ground school
Conversion Phase
Formation Phase
Instrument Flying (IF)
Night Flying (Very pertinent for the Night Attack Harrier)
Weapons Phase (A/G and A/A)
Carrier Operations
Air to Air Refuelling
hope this helps give everyone an idea of where I am looking to go with the Harrier training, and questions please let me know!
Matt.

Re: Harrier Training
Hi Matt,
The training is looking like an enjoyable challenge, and I'm pleased you've been able to share the training 'burden'
I do have a couple of questions:
The training is looking like an enjoyable challenge, and I'm pleased you've been able to share the training 'burden'
I do have a couple of questions:
- The ground school phase sounds like it could be self-study, is that the case?
- The only phase which, for me, isn't self-explanatory is the Conversion phase. What will this phase encompass?

Re: Harrier Training
Ian,
ground school will be a verbal lesson via TS however I will provide everyone with documentation as well so you can very much brush up on your own accord.
Conversion phase is very much a aircraft handling and airfield circuit phase, so creating a baseline of which everyone will be at so we can build the rest of the training from, it just ensures we can take a pilot from any level of aircraft ability and have a start state for the more in depth elements.
I hope that helps abit.
