XI Squadron ICLS and ACLS Practice

Post by Matt »

XI Squadron ICLS and ACLS Practice

You are starting from the air at 10000ft and 15nm to the rear of the carrier giving you plenty of time to set up ACLS and ICLS.

You are above all the bad weather initially until around 4500ft, so relax and take your time to get set up prior to attempting the approach.

Stennis has TACAN on 74X and ICLS on channel 1 ATC 127.500MHz

Don't stress, if you have problems you also have a tanker callsign Texaco if you get low on fuel, this is not an easy task in any aircraft but practice makes perfect, but it does not come overnight!

Good luck.

Absolutely! If you are doing a Case 3 approach, your CRS should be on FB not BRC. As Scooby says, the FB is usually given by the boat when you call on, but if not, it is BRC -10degrees usually.

I haven't tried ACLS for ages, in fact I haven't landed a tomcat at night on the deck for about 9 months so it'll be a baptism by fire for sure.

In the marshal stack for case 3 you should be CRS set for BRC and at Charlie, you change it to FB. Then fly to adjust for FB offset and line up the needles, then fly them down to the deck.....in theory 🤣

I'll download the mission and have a go.

Is the default ICLS channel for STN 1 or 11?
