Great trading mission last night Geoff. Thank you.

I had used the illumination flares once before but merely by loosing a couple off with no regard to the correct method. When done correctly as per your brief they really do provide quite a good few minutes in which to attack the target.

I will be having another go over the weekend with differing perameters.

Maybe if anyone writes a night mission these could be included somewhere.

I really enjoyed myself. Apologies that the lights went out on the first strike, before 3 and 4 could drop their ordinance. It was interesting watching different attack profiles being tried out by the four of us last night. I'm starting to believe that 10,000ft, with a "HOT" profile setting of 3500-4000 gives us more time to prepare for weapon release.

Richard, I agree that adding illumination flares to a multi-squadron mission, would be a good idea. Have a look at the video, time 23:25, to see your M257's and a stick of Mk82's.

Andrew, how about 97Sqn lighting up a target, with another squadron striking it 60seconds later. I haven't seen other squadrons try out illumination flares.

I reckon that would be a great idea. How about lighting up an LZ. I read a story about a Huey cross country night flight during the Vietnam war where they navigated by following the flares dropped from a slow flying aircraft.

I've not seen the video yet. I'm still working!

Illuminating an LZ would be possible, if we knew it's exact location. Any fuel installation would have to be protected against being ignited by the falling M257's.
