Hi Alien, Sorry for the blue on blue from 3(F). Having spoken to both pilots involved I have been informed it'll never happen again.

There's a vid on youtube by Ward Carrol ( RIO ) an F14 shot down a Funky Phantom

so they do happen in real life, thankfully we get to laugh it off

I also remember when stationed in Germany there was a NO DUFF call from a ( might have been a Jaguar pilot, not sure ) who let one go and took a friendly out, this particular pilot got a severe reprimand, which in RAF speak is a rap on the knuckles or a pass on happy hour friday.

There's not too many people out there that can catch Cactus like that, thats why I saw Kitchen had been promoted then, for taking out an F14 and our AIR To AIR specialist

Alien, the incident in Germany was a QRA (Quick Reaction Alert) Phantom returning from a routine scramble that didn't last long, so he had the fuel to go hunting Jaguars (exercise/practice). For this QRA (Live Armed) were required to pull the circuit breakers in the wpns circuit before engaging friendlies, to prevent accidents.....

Anyway, the "Mighty 'Toom" found the "Wittle Puddy Tat", locked him up and pulled the trigger - expecting that only the camera would run and record a technical "hit". A 9L Sidewinder leapt off the rail and headed for the Jag so the 'Toom pilot called "No duff, no duff, missile in the air, eject, eject, eject!". The Jag pilot duly pulled the handle and popped out to tell the tale over a beer. The investigation revealed that the circuit breaker had not remained pulled but the crew insisted that it had been - inconclusive result, Phantom wpn breakers were modified to prevent further accidents. I spent weeks pulling Phantom ejection seats for the mod program...bloody aircrew!

I think Will knows the Jag pilot, as he was there at the time...
Sometimes stuff is supposed to fall off....sometimes not.
I still can't be sure which... :?
