Operation Corduroy: Valley rescue

Background info to Operation Corduroy: Valley Rescue.

Overview
Abkhazia have aligned with Russia in the belief they can gain independence from Georgia.
They have welcomed the Russian forces in to Abkhazia. South Ossetia has also welcomed Russian forces however the South Ossetian border has remained calm.
Northern Georgia is under threat.
A UK US defence force has been moved in to the region in support of Georgian troops.
Abkhazian / Russian troops have continued to skirmish along the border. The region is a tinderbox waiting to explode.



Downed UN Helicopter
A UN helicopter with 5 US Diplomats on board has been shot down in the Kordori gorge, Intel reports that the helicopter auto-rotated and there are 5 survivors. Local reports say that they are being held at a special forces camp at grid 37T GH 131 830. There are also several members of the Georgian army held at the camp.




Troop build up
Satellite and aerial photography have noted a large build-up of Russian troops along the Kodori gorge. It is believed that a Russian offensive is imminent and a thrust East through mountainous forest roads and tracks could result with Russian force linking up with South Ossetia territory that has also been flooded with Russian troops.




US President
The outgoing US president has ordered that a rescue is undertaken to stop the US Diplomats being lost. He has also given orders that all means necessary can be used and a degradation of Russian forces under the auspice of a rescue would be welcomed. The president will not lose diplomats in his final month.

US UK forces
US / UK have a carrier battlegroup in the Black sea and squadrons of A10’s and F16’s based in Georgia.



Mission
Helicopters will assault the SF camp at 37T GH 131 830 and rescue the diplomats. Russian ground troops will be destroyed in the upper Abkhazian valleys. Abkhazian airbases will be targeted.
