892NAS Training

The squadron training pathway utilises the ‘cascade method’ by providing training to individuals who in turn provide the same training to others. The cascade model is widely used in teacher professional development interventions around the world. This is a signposted route to mastery of the DCS F18C. Progression relies heavily on self practice before group participation. Pilots are asked to try and stay within their current training stage rather than jump about. Once a stage is complete and signed off start the next one.

A pilot is awarded Navy Wings after completing phase 1 and deemed an IP when completing phase 3. Each phase is verified and signed off by the OC and TO. The whole procedure is laid back in approach and enjoyable to all without stress for most. Of course for this to work being signed off on a stage has to be honest and effectively done BUT we do not loose sight that it is a GAME, a high effective flight simulator but nonetheless still a GAME. There is no MQ rating but in missions roles will be assigned based on skills held. CQ (Carrier Qualified) training is run regularly for Case’s 1,2 & 3 with as many aircraft as we can muster in the approaches at the same time.
