21-09-20 Monday Flight Night

Post by 0405 Andrew »

21-09-20 Monday Flight Night

After a successful insertion, our ground forces have managed to push the enemy infantry back.

The body count was high and in our favour. Some put this at 300 enemy, dead but gunship pilots are known for their imagination.

Monday’s mission will be to reinforce our AO and support the troops on the ground.

Priority will be to evacuate the wounded if needed then resupply the LZ’s.

Mission briefing to follow.

It looks like we're heading to la Drang valley...and I'm afraid the time is 1.30pm.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Ia_Drang

The size of the clearing at LZ X-Ray meant that troops had to be shuttled in, the first lift landing at 10:48. The last troops of the battalion were landed at 15:20, by which time the troops on the ground were already heavily engaged, with one platoon cut off. Faced with heavy casualties and unexpected opposition, 1st Battalion was reinforced by B Company 2nd Battalion 7th Cavalry. Fighting continued the following day when the LZ was further reinforced by A Company 2/7 and also by 2nd Battalion 5th Cavalry, and the lost platoon was rescued.

Bikini Blue flight are about to land at LZ as we take off from farp for our first drop. Currently LZ is Cherry ICE.

Bikini Red heading to LZ and will require Buc flight to escort in.

While red flight returns for troops buc flight will continue supressing LZ, if the enemy is present and also in assisting the Ground forces. Obviously Buc flight will have to be on top of rearming, so as not to leave slicks without cover.

When Bikini Red returns to LZ with fresh troops, Buc flight will be required to form up either side and lay down suppressing fire as flight goes in if needed.

And repeat until bedtime.
