60 Squadron series Beirut 1982-84 Sign up.

Post by 0405 Andrew »

Merry Christmas all!

Please sign up below for the Beirut 1982-84 series of missions starting on the 4th Jan 2021 at 19.30.

Please see an overview attached. It is intended to take some of the historical events of this period and compress them in to a series of missions (with some liberty taken).

I also extend an invitation to non members of 60 Squadron, with the addition of multi crew, if you own the Huey module but do not fly it, come and experience an exciting mission with 60 Squadron help with spotting or just come along for the ride. Please just add your name, if you require help setting up comms PM me.

Intel briefing for Operation Hyperion. Beirut 1982.

History
An active Israeli invasion of Lebanon is underway; a besieged set of Palestinian fighters, a Syrian expeditionary force on the ground to the west, and dozens of separate armed Lebanese factions already embroiled in lethal contests and active warfare for the previous seven years, Lebanon was a perilous land for well-meaning strangers.
The world was aghast as Beirut was torn apart. A Multi National Force (MNF) was formed consisting of France, Italy, US and UK to form a buffer between the factions and save a humanitarian disaster.

Overview
Israel have failed to dislodge Syrian forces in the Beqaa Valley and have now swung round to Beirut where they seek to destroy Arab involvement in Lebanon and support the Christian government. Israel have threatened to enter Beirut to weed out the PLO, this will cause much destruction. It has been agreed that the MNF will provide security for the people of Beirut if the PLO are evacuated.

RAF Air involvement Beirut 1982
France and Italy have a small contingent force in Beirut, the US is sending a Marine Amphibious Unit (MAU) and the UK have agreed to provide assistance with helicopters stationed at Beirut International airport.

60 Squadron Beirut series of missions
A series of 6-8 missions will be run loosely based on the scenario above. Neal and Andrew will design the missions and they will run on a Monday evening, meet on TS at 19.30. The first mission will be on 04/01/21.
Some missions will be multi crewed. Please check your key and HOTAS bindings. We will use SRS throughout the missions.
