60 squadron 12th Jan sign up

Post by 0405 Andrew »

There will be a rerun of operation Corduroy on Jan 12th.

viewtopic.php?f=68&t=4436&p=31939#p31939

This is a tense mission from the Huey side, The success of the mission relies on rescuing the diplomats and returning them safely.
The Mig 29's will be keen to make up for last week. Stay close to the ground, hug the hills and keep an eye on the sky!

60 squadron sign up below!

Excellent, I shall put you down for a Huey unless you'd prefer A10. But the huey mission is very good.

Nice one Phil, but I see you have signed up for 97 as well.
If your A10 does get shot down are you planning your own SAR, to be honest we probably won't come and rescue you, we're heartless!

I have a re-show with 3F, Andrew, unless you are hard up for numbers.

Thanks Jack, we just need 2 Hueys, fly with 3F and enjoy, it may be a little busier.

I still hope to fly on this mission this evening.

However, I am still largely in the dark as to what we actually do.

At present I know we depart from Tarawa and fly to the general ops area - is that 5 nm from Tarawa or 500 nm - and in what direction. An overall map of the area, with relevant points marked would be useful (Tarawa - Coast in Point - and route points as a minimum - ideally with timings, would be more than useful. I have printed out all the brief, including maps but still cannot work where we are going. The various pictures are pretty, but how do we get there, where are the positions they are taken from, and on what headings were they taken? Where is the 'Valley', Zemo-Azhara, High Hill Village etc

What do with them after we do after we have lifted the diplomats? Where is our destination.

Finally, how do we keep in touch with the preliminary strikes, confirming that SEAD is complete and A/D and ground forces have been eliminated etc.

I must apologise Alan, I was lazy and did not bother creating a full brief for 60 Squadron, last week only Weasel and myself were flying it.

We will be taking of from a FARP by a dam (not Tarawara), we will head in to the valleys and find a safe way to get to the camp. There are waypoints in the knee board. We are to contact Pontiac and Colt to confirm the valley is safe, radio frequencies are in the brief, if we cannot contact them or the valley is not safe, we will find another way through the valleys. Hug the valley sides and keep as low as possible.

There is a hospital site that has been set up close to the FARP, this is where we are to drop the diplomats. We over fly that on our out bound route.

I hope it is a little clearer than mud now.
