Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

Post by Matt »

Hey all,

So who will be purchasing the new flight simulator? I for one have got my preorder in already!

If we get enough guys that play it we can all get together in its multiplayer and tour together, from what I've seen you can set up multiplayer "groups" so we could get a RAF Air UK group on therefor ease of flying together.

Matt.

Umming and Ahhhring on whether to get it or not, spent a fortune on X-Plane 11 the past couple of years as I migrated from FSX when it started to get long in the tooth, spent a fortune on that as well.

Cost depends on what version you want, starts at £60 I believe. 3 different versions.

Base Pack is £59.99

Deluxe Pack £69.99

Premium pack £109.99

At least on Steam that is. Release date is presumed to be 18/08/2020

They are supposed to be developing it with TrackIR and VR in mind.

Hmm while the up high graphics look amazing the fact that it essentially uses google maps (bing whatever) the textures and modelling on buildings at street level are somewhat immersion breaking for me.

If DCS could get something akin to the more none city regions shown on that video then DCS would look great as well. I run a texture mod on my DCS Caucasus map and it makes a hell of a difference tbh, not upto those google photo standards but very very good none the less.

I use this one, it looks so much better.

You can also use the replacement tree files on page 2 post #13 if you wanted as it makes the trees less standard DCS neon in certain conditions but they pop a little more due to the way the textures alpha channel is rendered in game.

Example of textures from the ED forum thread.

Update (July 30th, 2020): Microsoft today announced in a blog post that official VR support for the new Microsoft Flight Simulator will arrive as a free update to the base game sometime this fall with the release of HP Reverb G2.

Eurogamer reports that HP Reverb G2 will be the first VR headset supported by the game.

“We’re starting with them,” Microsoft’s head of Flight Simulator Jorg Neumann told Eurogamer, “There’s some extra work to be done for some of the others. I mean, we’re going to bring it to all the devices – all the common ones. It’s just going to take a few more months after that.”

An official HP retailer was spotted clearly advertising a September 15th release date for the headset, however HP confirmed with Road to VR that it hasn’t announced a date any more specific than ‘Fall 2020’. Whatever the case, it appears VR support will come fairly close to its late summer launch on August 18th.

Track IR will work from the launch date it works well now in the Alpha testing
