Nice one Phil.

Just let us know which airfield you'll be flying from, and we can all stay well clear!

Oh good, I should be safe in the Midlands then!

You do realise just how broke you will be if you decide to go for your PPL?

Hi guys,

Looks like I might be in a similar situation. I got a one hour 'taster' flight experience for my birthday which should be amazing. I wonder if my DCS knowledge will help at all, I suppose it must with the understanding of an ADI, Pitot tube etc.?

I thought since I have almost the right hardwear it wouldn't hurt to have a go on a fight sim first. Save some time in the plane etc. Does anyone know of any free or cheap Cessna 150 or 170 flight sims I could have a go on and try and get my eye in? I have only ever flown DCS!

Thanks in advance,

I think your only real hope of finding something with the correct cockpit layouts and procedures would be Flight Simulator 10, or X Planes. Neither of which come under the heading cheap.

Really though I expect your best chance of success would be to forget all about the simulators, and go into it with a completely open mind. I am sure your instructor wouldn't thank you for saying you are a virtual pilot. But of course, you will have a little bit of a head start - assuming you already make coordinated turns etc.

If you are looking for a basic trainer in DCS, you could do worse than the Yak-52. It is a relatively simple twin-seat, tricycle-undercarriage, piston.

It is not a particularly ergonomic cockpit, but it is fun to fly, and it does aeros and G/H very nicely.
