Generic South Atlantic Map

Post by Matt »

Hi all,

So with the release of the Falklands map, I'm trying to gauge interest on whether we want this as a server map for RAF Air UK.

My questions (please do answer them  )

1) do you want this as a RAF Air UK Generic server mission?

2) If so what would you like to see on the map?

I ask what you would like to see, because I can stick stuff in all day, but I'd rather have the opinions of you guys on what you would like to see or do on the map for your enjoyment.

I will (once downloaded) try to pump out a base miz with all squadrons aircraft, carriers and tankers before I start work tomorrow morning and get it on a server so you can all have a jolly around, enemies will be done over the later days (probably some a good few respawning groups Friday morning at the earliest)

But please give me your ideas and opinions so I know whether we want a miz on the map or what sort of targets you would like!

I think this would be a very useful addition to the server libraries Matt.

The size of the map will allow some widely separated zones with different geographical features, and with the addition of all the maritime assets that come with the map such as the Invincible, we can give the Harriers plenty to get their teeth into.

The fjordland areas might be fun with some Mossies to re-enact 633 Squadron's raid on Norway too.

Generally though, for any airframe there is lots to do and see. As always, it will probably be something that matures over time.

As a matter of interest, how many of us have got the South Atlantic map?

I have just got this map and agree that it should be added to the RAFAIR library. I'd like to see F-16s based at MPA so that we could run QRA type training against intruders from the mainland. I also like Neil's idea for Mossie raids into "Norway". Also this would be a great place to properly employ AAR, given the potential distances involved in flying strike missions...

So i've created a base miz which includes all squadron aircraft in their respective skins and comms presets, all tankers, HMS Hermes and a US Carrier group (George Washington).

the hardest A/C to place has been the A10C due to most opf hte parking areas on the main falklands not allowing 4x A/C placed together so I have had to split them 2 at MP and 2 at Stanley (i will work on this to find a work around later)

Aircraft Starting Locations
1(F) - San Carlos FARP and HMS Hermes
3(F) - Mount Pleasant
11(F) - Mount Pleasant and USS George Washington
41(f) - Mount Pleasant
60 Squadron - San Carlos FARP
97 Squadron - 2X Mount Pleasant and 2X Port Stanley
892 Naval Air Squadron - USS George Washington

There are also 4X Spits and 4X Mossies at Ushuaia for glacier/fjord flying in South America which are set to invisible to the enemy ready for when we do have red forces on the map!

I have also added a Tacan to San Carlos FARP for easier navigation (Tacan 22X)

If someone wouldnt mind getting it on a serve that would be grand, i've run out of time this morning

Can you get round the parking issue by just setting, start on ground rather than ramp?

And nice one Matt, it looks like a fantastic map.

Quick update, i know its taken me a while (damned work) i have updated the miz with some enemy so far:

West Falkland's are occupied by red forces, east are ours (except goose green which has a few targets)

On the Map:

USS George Washington carrier group
HMS Invincible carrier group
All tankers for our aircraft (do we want these or not?)

Red forces
2x Mirage 2000C taking off from Argentina (respawning)
2x C101 (acting as my A4) also taking off from Argentina (respawning)
Enemy ground forces and landing ships at Pebble Island
Enemy IFV's and ground forces at Goose Green Farm
Enemy Artillery at Leicester Creek Farm
Enemy ground forces at Fox Bay
ANA Santa Fe (Submarine) which leaves Queen Charlotte Bay and makes a route towards Blue carrier groups (it wont kill them but its a pain to find)
Almirante Lynch Frigate acting as a stand in for ARA General Belgrano (if they make an asset for it i will change it)
Admiral Kutz acting as a stand in for ARA Veinticinco de Mayo (if they make an asset for it i will change it)
A C130 leaving from Rio Grande that will resupply red forces in the falklands before returning to base (flight departs every 3 hours ingame)

Aircraft Starting Locations
1(F) - San Carlos FARP and HMS Hermes
3(F) - Mount Pleasant
11(F) - Mount Pleasant and USS George Washington
41(f) - Mount Pleasant
60 Squadron - San Carlos FARP
97 Squadron - 2X Mount Pleasant and 2X Port Stanley

This sounds great Matt, thank you. Yes please to keeping a tanker for the Vipers to use.
