Tue 23rd Feb Op Hermes Hunt
The next big mission will be a re-run of last week’s Coastal Climax. Can you let me know if you are available please?

Re: Tue 23rd Feb Op Hermes Hunt
From last week, it took 4 x Harpoon hits from me plus 2 from Chris to sink one of the escort frigates. My 2nd set of 4 hit the 2nd escort but didn’t sink it so we can assume it probably needs 6 per ship to sink the escorts. The cargo ships are bigger. It would be great if we could find away to identify the frigates and get 6 missiles into each in our first run.
I wonder if either the EW page or the HARM page would do this if we took a single harm each in order to identify the frigates for Harpoon attack?
With the frigates out of the way we could even consider other weapons for the cargo ships.

I’ve had a look at the escort frigate capabilities. They are primarily anti-submarine frigates, armed with 2 x OSA SAM batteries, total 40 missiles. These are designated SA-N-4 Gecko, range 8 miles, altitude A17. Quite ineffective really. I will test that before Tuesday but we will be able to visually ID the frigates depending on the weather, then set mark points extend and attack. Or something like that! Whatever we decide.

Just had another thought, if the ships are same setup as last week the cargo ships were approx 10 miles off the frigates, but under the SA6 protection. Another approach might be to hug the coast, take out SA6 and swoop on the cargo ships with dumb bombs. Taking care to keep 8 miles off the frigates.

Be Sod’s law that the frigates were in close this time though if we did that

So we can expect a harder nut to crack nowAndrew has sussed the cunning plan.
Plan B, just go after the Hermes again
2 sections, 1st recce of Emissions, carrying one Harm each and 3 Harpoons. Centre line tank if required otherwise all remaining pylons with AA.
2nd section delayed launch with 4 Harpoons each with centreline tank and rest AA.
Land, rearm, go again and swamp them with 8 Harpoons in the air together. We may bag a few destroyers too that way?
