Killing SA-15 with LG M282

Post by Flyco »

The only way I have found of killing a SA-15 with GL Rocket is by approaching at 20,000 ft + and launching in a 30 degree dive from around 6 n.m. Not very practical unless you have light load and some AD fighter cover

Tacview attached (You will need to add .acmi to the end of this file to re-convert it to a Tacview file).

Impressive Alan, especially keeping your laser locked onto the 15. However, I will be keeping well away from SA-15s.

Were your first 2 rockets decoys, hoping to lure launched missiles? Didn't see any chaff fired by yourself.

Not exactly decoys. The SA-15 and the SA-19 can knock down the rockets almost as fast as you can fire them. A salvo of 3-4, fired within a 2-3 second period, seems enough to swamp the SAM's system and although it will normally take out the first 2, the 3rd or 4th will usually get through. With over 40 rockets on-board, it doesn't seem excessive. The only, fairly minor, drawback is you have to keep the laser firing on the target until they hit, which limits your ability to break away.
