Chaps,
As there have been a number of comments on people being interested in flying a Spitfire, I’m going to suggest an initial meet up, with a start time of 19:00 for this coming Sunday, 12th Jan.
I do appreciate that some see the FAF Air as a “jet only” squadron. In principle I have no objections to that view, when aimed at already running sessions on a Tues and Thurs. I see this purely as a bit of fun on the side for a different evening (Sundays) for those of you who might fancy giving it a try.
To facilitate the above, I’ll be hosting a WW2 “setting” for the Normandy map, based upon the summer of 1943.
At that point the RAF will have available:
- Spitfire mk XI, both standard and “clipped wing” (low altitude optimised)
- US P51 Mustang
I couldn’t see anyone requesting a Luftwaffe aircraft, but for those who do, there will be:
- Fw190 A8
- BF109
Notes:
The 190 Dora was a late 44 aircraft and really doesn’t fit into our time scenario. There will be NONE available
Whilst the K4 was also a 44 aircraft, the map will have NO availability of MW50, thus restricting the performance of the K4 to something more akin to a G6
Communication frequencies will be preset for the mission to Radio channel 1 of each aircraft
If you do have the chance to get any time in to practice, please look through how to jettison your drop tanks and control fuel flow
For the first evening, I’ll setup some ground targets, but we’ll leave the Luftwaffe alone for the day.
The objective will be to work on:
- Startup
- Ground handling
- Take off and landing
- Formation
- Interfacing with the RAF Home Defence radar system (simulated with the use of AWACs)
- Ground strike
For those interested in getting some early practice in prior to the session, I’ll be restricting scenarios on Server 2 to either “Playgrounds”, in which you can fly anything on a rotation around all of the maps, or more focused WW2 settings based in Normandy.
I’m not even going to ask for names for Sunday. If you fancy coming along, Server 2 will be hosting the mission, just pop along.
Cheers
Mike

To mimic the typical Brit on holiday:
"EH, HANS, SPEAK SLOOWWWLLLYYYY IN ENGLISH PLEASE"...
On a more serious note, I'll put you down for a 190 A8. I'll add a flight of 4 "captured" units to an RAF base. For test purposes only on course.
