Deep Valley II

Post by Flyco »

I am preparing a multi-player mission for a future Tuesday Evening Mission. It is based on my earlier mission “Deep Valley”, but I will be asking other elements to add their inputs, as is becoming the norm. The Caucasus map will be used.

I will be responsible for the A-10C element, and will be seeking nominees from any other Squadron that wishes to take part, including a R/W element. The exact nature and size of the roles will depend on inputs from other squadrons, at an initial planning group. To keep things simple I would be looking for just one individual per squadron at this initial meeting with the authority to OK their general role(s) and route(s). With the outline established, I would pass out the map for the Squadrons to finalize their routes etc.

The roles I foresee, depending on blue ac numbers and Sqn Cdr’s preferences, are:

Destruction of Red armour within the Valley – A-10C
SEAD in and around the Valley and close-in protection of A-10s – F-18
Infiltration of SAS into a ‘Research Unit’ near the Valley and extraction of ‘Specimens’ – Huey
Destruction of said Research Unit and/or Red R/W – Av-8B
Airfield strike(s) to knock out Red fighters – F-16s, F-18s, and/or F-14s
CAP – F-14s and/or F-16s

The assignment of aircraft to tasks will be the first job of the initial planning.

I would welcome the agreement of Sqn Cdrs to the above task, and nominations of initial planners.

With the overall plan agreed in outline, it would then be up to individual force elements to refine their squadrons’ tasks in detail.

I would hope to have everything finalised at least 3 days before the mission is flown to allow detailed briefs to be produced and any specific pre-operation refresher training to be carried out.

No date set. I would rather take my time and get it right. PPPPPP! (Poor planning produces piss-poor performance). So sometime this year, then.

Thank you for your initial responses. I have attached an outline of the brief, which will be finalised at the Initial Planning Meeting, once i have nominees from the Squadrons involved. Also attached is a outline map, showing the main area of conflict and the locations of red forces (ground and air).

I would welcome views or any requests for significant changes.

The fighter aircraft types are to a degree interchangeable. All that is required is that sufficient ac are available for: the low-level strike to cover 3 or 4 pans at Maykop; at least 3-4 ac capable of launching HARM and some LGB weapon; 4-8 ac to defend the A-10s from Mig 29s and 21s; and some fighters to interdict a LL Su-25 incursion. Obviously we can eliminate any of the above if we do not get enough ac.

The Warning Order, seeking inputs from the various squadrons for Op Deep Valley II is attached. A nominated member from each sqn that wishes to take part is requested to select a task, or tasks, from the various ones described in the Order and submit a brief outline plan of how it is intended to meet it. If any squadron does not wish to take part, please also let me know.

The tasks for the A-10s and the Hueys, is already complete, subject to approval by the relevant Sqn Cdrs, whom I shall be contacting shortly.

The general area map is shown above in this thread, and an initial framework of the mission file is also attached for reference. This will be subject to change, depending on the various inputs from members.

If anyone wishes to discus the plan, or get more information, please let me know and I will respond or arrange a team-speak conference.
