22nd June Operation Oh Man!

Post by 0405 Andrew »

All squadrons please be aware of a developing situation in the straights of Hormuz.

We are monitoring the situation along the northern coastline and have increased the threat notification to forces training at the Omani-British Joint Training Area just west of Al Duqm.

The Omani government appears to be in a state of confusion after the death of it's newly appointed leader. No successor has been appointed yet, but our government has given a statement saying that we will offer any assistance needed to one of our most respected allies.

All Squadrons:
Be ready to deploy at 96 hours notice.

Iran

A large build up of trucks and support vehicles are massing in the Bandar Abbas area. Naval assets and small civilian vessels have been observed heading to this area.
Intel is suggesting that a Coup is underway in Oman. This will have very severe consequences if the deep water facilities are then denied to us. Intel is also considering the implications of two hostile states either side of the Hormuz straight and how that would affect shipping.

Intel report:

There has been an increase in traffic between Iran and Oman. Cargo ships have been spotted unloading army trucks on the Oman coast.
Planners are watching and have advised the government that these look like military supplies and the fear is a strong Iranian military presence could be built on the Omani coast. The ground being very good for defence and embedded units would be very hard to dislodge.
A strong presence here would certainly threaten the Straight of Hormuz.

We have been asked to plan a limited strike on ports and facilities in Iran that are supplying military assistance to the Safavi coup.

The main objective of the mission will be to disconnect the support from Iran to Safavi. Secondary we would like to degrade naval facilities and SAM Network in the Bandar Abbas area. Targets will be Given in the next 96 hours.

SAM Report:
The Strait of Hormuz is moderately exposed. The S-200VE deployed in Bandar Abbas leaves the area vulnerable to advanced fighter jets, low-observable cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). The PAD layer consists of one Hawk MIM-23 and one Chinese HQ-2. While these systems focus on the low-altitude blindspot of the S-200, they are largely impotent in the face of maneuvering targets and powerful jamming.

Abu Musa Island serves as a forward early warning post and staging point for special operations forces. Despite its strategic position near international shipping lines, the island lacks major military installations. The local MIM-23 Hawk site is a folder cannon, aimed at increasing the survivability of more important assets such as radars and missiles launchers on the mainland. An unknown number of naval SAMs carried by IRGC-N vessels provide additional AD in the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC-N is scheduled to receive the latest naval version of the Sayyad in the near future.

A recently deployed MIM-23 Hawk in Chabahar is the only SAM system on the coast of the Gulf of Oman. As Chabahar is undergoing multi-billion-dollar investment and is on route to become Iran’s key deep-water port, the city will likely be one of the first recipients of the Sayyad 3 or 4 SAMs. The area hosts two major IRGC-N/IRIN bases and serves as a gateway to both the Strait of Hormuz and the eastern Iranian airspace.

Military advisers are urging a quick military strike on several key points.

Delays will lead to Iranian increased capabilities in Oman. We have already observed that an F5 and F14 squadron have been moved back from Bandar Abbas to Jiroft.
Transport ships are landing troops and supplies at locations in Northern Oman with C-130's being observed landing at Khasab. It is feared that with every day that passes air defences could be built up along the Oman coast.

The last time I flew over Iran, we were intercepted by a pair of F-4s. Of course, that was under the old Regime, who were, allegedly, friendly - but they didn't look it!
