EDIT: 01 - Changed A-10 to A-10 II 28/12/21

OPERATION BLAGGARD

SITUATION

For some time Russian forces have been moving closer to the UN agreed Front Line. They are expected to begin an advance Westwards any day. Their aim is to capture the entire Crimean Peninsula and re-negotiate the Border with the UN.

NATO Forces are deployed to resist that invasion, Strategically the aim is to make the invasion too costly, Politically, by killing or capturing large numbers of Russian troops. Tactically, the aim is to draw large amounts Russian forces into Salients where they can be cut off and surrounded. The terrain favours this plan because of the limited number of road and railway supply routes.

Whilst there are NATO Forces spread across the whole Front RAFAIR is deployed to the southern part of the Peninsula.

Opposite RAFAIR is the 58th Combined Arms Army.

Image

The 58th CAA consists of

19th Motor Rifle Division
42nd Motor Rifle Division
136th Motor Rifle Brigade
205th Motor Rifle Brigade
387th Separate Parachute-Landing Regiment

Russian Air Forces.

The majority of Russian aircraft are deployed in the Northern part of the Peninsula opposite the USAF contingent of NATO.

Opposite RAFAIR the Russian Air Force still has a number of Mig Fighters, Sukhoi Ground attack aircraft, Maritime Strike aircraft, Helicopter Assault Squadrons and Ilyushin Transport Aircraft capable of dropping Parachute troops. Support aircraft include AWACS and refuelling tankers.

Small numbers of Pro-Russian para-military forces are mobilising to some NATO bases and important Civil infrastructures, Local NATO, and Civil Police, forces are mostly containing these troops.

NATO Intel currently assess the Russian Army advance Routes as being a 3 pronged attack by 58th Army.
Image

The Northern attack aims to capture the 2 airfields at Krasnodar, cross the Bridges just South of Krasnodar and protect the Right Flank of the main, Central, attack.
The Southern Attack aims to reach the major Port of Taupse and the road and rail links that go North from there.
The central attack is the largest one, this attack will be allowed to advance into a Salient then halted and surrounded.

The Northern attack will be held North of the major river south of Krasnodar.
The Southern attack will be held close to the Front line so that they are unable to reach Taupse or support the flanks of the main thrust.

All of this will be dependant on Allied Forces being able to destroy bridges that are crucial to the NATO plan.
Because of the imminent attack and the large distances to travel, some locations are quite remote, it is impossible for NATO Engineers to complete this job alone, RAFAIR is tasked to Destroy several Bridges.

It is important to remember that these bridges are in NATO territory, some are in built up areas others are in heavily wooded areas, so precision strikes are required.

Russian Forces include Bridge Laying Units, these have been identified and located, they will also be targeted by RAFAIR. They are situated behind the enemy front lines.

AOR

RAFAIR currently has access to 6 airfields, however, it is suspected that the 2 Airfields near Krasnodar will be attacked very early on.
RAFAIR Squadrons based in this area will likely have to relocate after their first sortie.
The Carrier Air Wing is currently land based although their Carrier Group is travelling overnight and should rendezvous with NATO warships by morning.
NATO AWACS and Refuelling aircraft are available.

TASKINGS & FRAG

1 Squadron
Your task is to attack and destroy ground units in your assigned kill zone, these are Bridge laying Vehicles, with some local AAA defences.
Crossing the front line: there is a Russian Division in the area and it is defended by 23mm AAA units.
There are several SAM defences in the area and you should endeavour to weave a route around these, there are no units available for SEAD to support you. Your nearest CAP support will be around 25miles West.
Stay alert for enemy aircraft, you are behind enemy lines and not far North of one of their airfields.
Rearm and Refuel: you “may” be able to rearm and refuel at your take off airfield, however it is expected that this airfield will be an early target for RedAir. Due to this you will finish your sorties at Krymsk.

97 Squadron
Your task is to attack and destroy ground units in your assigned kill zone, these are Bridge laying Vehicles and their Command vehicles, they include some local AAA defences.
Crossing the front line: there is a Russian Division in the area and it is defended by 23mm AAA units.

Rearm and Refuel: you “may” be able to rearm and refuel at your take off airfield, however it is expected that this airfield will be an early target for RedAir. Due to this you will finish your sorties at Krymsk.

3 Squadron
Task 01: To carry out precision bomb attacks on 4 bridges, Engineers assess that these bridges will require at least 2000lb’s of bombs, delivered exactly on the coordinates in the FRAG, to be destroyed. There is a TIme on Target to adhere to.
Task 02: To provide a CAP in the area highlighted in the frag miz. Be particularly aware of low flying aircraft intruding into our Airspace, an attack is expected on the friendly airfields at Krasnodar where 1 and 97 Squadrons are operating from. Over recent days a RedAir Electronic intelligence gathering aircraft has made runs, at high level, along the front line. It is often escorted.
If your resources allow, consider a SEAD strike, to the East Of Krasnodar, to aid the egress of No’s 1 and 97 Squadrons.
Should you require a Refuelling Tanker insert it into the miz file.

41 Squadron
Task 01: To carry out precision bomb attacks on 5 bridges, Engineers assess that these bridges will require at least 2000lb’s of bombs, delivered exactly on the coordinates in the FRAG, to be destroyed. There is a TIme on Target to adhere to.
Task 02: To provide a CAP in the area highlighted in the frag miz. Be particularly aware of low flying aircraft intruding into our Airspace. Over recent days a RedAir Electronic intelligence gathering aircraft has made runs, at high level, along the front line. It is often escorted.
Be aware that aircraft from the CAW will, if resources allow, carry out a strike on Maykop airfield.
Should you require a Refuelling Tanker insert it into the miz file.

Carrier Air Wing
The Carrier Group has been travelling overnight to get into theatre, in the meantime you are shore based to allow an early strike on enemy airfields as detailed in the Frag. The Carrier has retained 2 Tomcats for Fleet Defence and they have access to the Viking A/A refuelling aircraft to extend the CAP as needed.

11 Squadron
Task 01: maintain a CAP as described in the Frag miz. Recently RedAir have sent fighters to intercept our AWACS, do not let them get near this valuable asset.
There is a RedAir Maritime Strike Squadron based at Guduata although these aircraft have not been sighted recently they are still believed to be based there.
Be aware, other units of the CAW will be carrying out a strike on Sochi airfield, keep a weather eye out on any Response by RedAir.

892NAS
Task 01: To carry out precision bomb attacks on 2 bridges, Engineers assess that these bridges will require at least 2000lb’s of bombs, delivered exactly on the coordinates in the FRAG, to be destroyed

CAW Strike Group - remaining aircraft of 11 Squadron and 892NAS
You are tasked to make a strike on Sochi airfield, this will require a SEAD element and a runway denial element.
Should your resources allow you will also carry out a strike on Maykop airfield, this will require a SEAD element and a runway denial element.
The Strike Groups will recover to the Carrier.

Thanks Black-Witch for creating this mission for us all. I find myself with a bit of time today so am working on 3(F)'s tasking as we speak.

Normally we fetch around six people for missions so I hope we can field some players for a SEAD mission. However, I can't promise anything due to the uncertainty of family plans of our pilots in the new year. I will however do my very best to keep you informed.

Merry Christmas

Andrew, Black Witch,
For medical reasons, I will not be flying till end January. I haven't flown for over a month. However, I believe 97Sqn may be short staffed, so decided to help with my ideas for mission planning.
After downloading your miz, I've hit a problem when trying to make changes.
When I try to add an A10C-II, it's not listed. Only the A10A is available. The A10C is shown yellowed out when trying to add. I cannot add a litening pod when trying to re-arm the included single A10C. My A10C-II is listed as "installed".

Is this your plan, is it my system, or is it the latest update?

With my eyesight at present, it's a challenge to spend more than 10mins in front of the monitor.

Hi Geoff,

It's Black Witch's mission and he is away for a couple of days.

I hope the eyes are mending and you'll be back in the cockpit soon.

Cheers
Andrew

Geoff, the limitation on the A-10C is because it is loading them from the AI selection. I have often encountered it. Unfortunately I cannot recall how to fix it - I seem to remember that it is linked to the country as well. I will try and look next time I am on my PC.

Hi Geoff
I have just tried the intel miz. It is working fine.
Have you logged out of DCS? Can you add in other airframes you have purchased?
