Boctok 18th Jan.

This is a reworking of last years mission around the Beslan area.

Intle map and Frag will be published later today.

Intel & Situation briefing for Operation Boctok.

Situation
Russia amassed troops on the border with Georgia and has made threatening demands that NATO withdraw their support for Georgia.

NATO Reaction

NATO has welcomed Georgia into the alliance and has agreed to make a stand and force Russia’s hand.
Russia has failed to remove their irregular forces from Abkhazia. It is now believed that Russia has every intention of invading Georgia. Russia believes NATO will back down.

Russians are threatened
Armed forces chief Valery Gerasimov denounced reports of an impending invasion as a lie. Satellite photos showing troop build-ups were alarmist, Moscow said.
But President Putin then threatened to "take adequate military-technical response measures and react harshly to unfriendly steps".
Those "unfriendly steps" appear to refer to Gergia and the West.
Russia claimed Georgian troops were massing in the North to launch an attack on separatists, though this was ridiculed in Tiblisi as "propaganda nonsense" to justify Russian action. If Moscow wanted to act it could argue it was protecting the 500,000 people in separatist-run areas who have been handed Russian passports.
But Russia has also accused Nato countries of "pumping" Gerogia with weapons and the US of stoking tensions. Mr Putin said Russia had "nowhere further to retreat to - do they think we'll just sit idly by?"

NATO response

Routes in to Georgia along the northern border will be hit, bridges, passes, tunnels. Concentrations of troops heading towards Georgia will be targeted. Strength will be met with strength airfields in Russia will be hit.

Intel expects Russia to launch an invasion through the Roki tunnel and the Tarak River Valley in the next few days.

The weather is showing signs of improvement after the last few days of rain, with a high pressure moving in on Thursday, it is believed Russia will launch the invasion while the weather is still unsettled to provide cover through the valleys.

Several squadrons of Helicopters have been stationed at Beslan. Currently no airborne troops have been spotted at the base. Intel are searching for the Spetznaz staging area.

Russia believes that they are calling NATO's bluff and are not expecting a response other than sanctions.

Russia are hoping to catch NATO by surprise. Using the cloudy weather, that has been over the area to give them an hours head start.

All updated in the post above.

If anyone else sees anything before Tuesday mission meeting, please do not hesitate to let me know.

With regards to tankers and other points brought up after the last mission.

All target points (DMPI) will be set to zero ft AGL unless specifically asked to leave when sent back.

All WP's will be set 100ft higher than your miz, this is due to copy and pasting. If you require a specific height for a WP please allow for that in your miz and return it to the designer at 100ft lower than your intended WP.

Tankers will be set for each specific squadron. If you require a tanker please return your miz with a tanker added and label it 3F tanker etc. This will then be added to the main miz with a spawn location trigger set to your squadron unless asked otherwise. This will enable the Tanker to be close and not having you chase over the map for it.

Call Signs. Importing your miz in to the main miz sometimes mucks with the callsigns. Each squadron will be allocated a call sign in the FRAG. If a squadron requires more than one call sign, please make clear when you send your miz back, either in the forum or message, that you require additional callsigns. The FRAG will then be updated. Please note that we will endeavour to add your call sign of choice, but if everyone wants to be a Jedi it will be first come first served.

I hope that is all clear.

The FRAG and Miz have been updated. Small changes for most. Please see post 3 above.

Please note that the HERMES mod is now included in the mission, so please ensure that everyone has it downloaded.

The HERMES mod is included in the RAF AIR mods pack. viewtopic.php?f=359&t=4993

Dear Squadrons,

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ALL HAVE THE HERMES MOD

Please see Intel with all squadron points plotted. Please check.

I realise that my briefing on the timings has not been clear. Please accept my apologies and I hope this will clear it up.

11F, 892, 3F and 41F will cross the border at 05:10Z
97 Sqn and 1F must also not cross the border until then.

It is important that no squadron crosses before that, the Russians will scramble migs as soon as there is an incursion and may mean they are up before airfields are hit, they are on high alert and are ready to go.

As you know, in the last few weeks there has been face off's between air forces, but no one has fired at each other yet. No weapons are to be fired until 05:10. There is a state of tension but neither side want's to escalate, (until 05:10).

41 Sqn After Action Report

4 ship SEAD Package departed on time 0500Z and crossed the border at 0510 and 4 secs. We decided on a 1 min split between pairs to enable more prep time per pair to find and lock emitting targets.

5 ship Bomber package departed 6 mins after second SEAD pair to allow time for threats at the airfield to be cleared.

The SEAD package were engaged by three redair before arrival on site and self-defended, losing 2 ac. SEAD Leader called Rolex + 5 to bomber package, who held at WP4.
SEAD were then engaged by four more redair from the West and were outnumbered. Bomber package turned in at the designated time and also engaged redair at the target. The runway and one fuel dump were hit as per instructions but all Springfield aircraft were lost.

It seemed that there was no air cover for our end of the operation so the result was not unreasonable, normally we would have aborted but it was a long way home so we decided to fight and bomb for a giggle.
Sometimes stuff is supposed to fall off....sometimes not.
I still can't be sure which... :?

3(F) Sqn After Action Report.

We took off from VAZ at 0455 in two flights and held in an orbit south of the border at 20 and 22k ft respectively. We pushed at 0512. Four out of 5 A/C dropped weapons on the target airfield and immediately turned to engage the red air to our North. They were merged with SPRINGFIELD so engaging with AIM 120Cs was a risk. We killed three but lost three of our own in the process, two to MIGs and one to a SAM. Now well below BINGO fuel the two survivors RTB at VAZ.

Great mission, thoroughly enjoyed by the 3(F) Sqn pilots.

41f, I'm sorry to see you hit so bad. I see some from Nalchik hit you that got up just before we hit the runway. I'm sorry we missed them.

3f I'm glad you enjoyed it.
