The use of Latin

Post by Plexi »

Hi All. I have trolled through a few sites now to try and find an answer as to why the RAF amongst other services use the Latin language for their motto's. I know some use 'normal English' So far I've been unsuccessful in finding an answer. Does any know?

It's cos we was posh in the RAF.

More seriously (but only slightly so), I believe it was an arbitrary decision taken by the squadrons when they were formed and cleared though the 'College of Arms'
