Maps or other files on different drives. How to.

Post by 0405 Andrew »

My main Open Beta SSD drive will not unpack the Syria map. I have no idea why, I've tried repairing, cleaning and several disc utilities but to no avail.

I have the stable version of DCS on a HDD which has the Syria map installed. (no problem installing that, so it can't be anti virus)

I am able to link the Open Beta (SSD) to the Stable version (HDD) install of the Syria map by using a soft symbiotic link. This makes the open beta version think that the Syria map is installed in the Open Beta Terrain folder.

It's a work around until I figure out what's wrong with my drive, but it may come in handy if you are short of disc space on your SSD. (John)

It also works well if you want to link a folder to dropbox, but not actually put it in the dropbox folder.

Good stuff Andrew, I was looking at this same mklink type of thingy yesterday, and it very much looks like I'm going to have to do it, I only have 24gb free on my SSD, 240GB on my HDD.

Thanks for the heads up mate

You may be 'flogging a dead horse' Andrew.... Syria is not yet released for DCS stable yet, only Beta... of course your workaround may have got round the planners of DCS in which case everything may self destruct soon :)

'Early access (What is DCS World Early Access?)
Requires DCS World Open Beta version 2.5.6 or above!'
'You need to have the "Open Beta" version DCS World 2.5 installed on your PC for this product.'

You're right, my other install was another backup version of open beta.
It just helped me getting Syria running with my ssd version and I hoped it would help someone out. I'm sure John will follow the instructions and will be fine, as long as he drops the technical forcefield.
