After Action Report, Red Air Ops Night 1

After Action Report,

Operation Hammer, 10 December 2005, 21:00

Primary Objective met; Negative

Secondary Objective met; Negative

Explanation; Mi8 scheduled for departure experienced technical difficulties and unable to depart on time.

Mi-24 x2 suffered engine malfunctions and were lost crossing the border 4km East of Bullseye.

Casualty report; KIA, 0, Severe injuries, 1 Crew member, 2 Infantry, Minor injuries, 3 crew, 14 infantry.

Unarmed Medivac Mi8 despatched within the hour to region to retrieve crew and infantry members. Smoke marker and radio beacon broadcast to aid detection.

Support elements, not required, crash site in Russian territory.

0 Georgian Intelligence radio chatter heard and no change witnessed to flight behavior of Georgian aircraft

Mission re attempt planned plus 24 hours, weather and conditions look similar so green light confirmed for re launch plus 24hr.

Very good debrief.
An enjoyable evening even if it was cut short.

It just goes to show how well DCS simulates poor decision making.

We're looking forward to flying it again.
